Mason County Commissioners allocate the U.S. Forest Service Secure Rural Title III funds to provide funding for a natural resource education program targeted toward county wide efforts for youth to receive forestry and natural resources education.

Since 2002 the Mason County 4-H Forestry Education program has:

  • Reached over 5,000 youth throughout the county with environmental education programs and actiities at Panhandle Lake 4-H camp facilities, eight area schools, Mason County Fair, North Mason boys & Girls Club, Shelton Head Start and the SOCK after school 4-H program.
  • Provided over 5,500 hours of manpower in clearing and building trails, habitat restoration and native plant inventory and landscaping.
