DRAFT MEETING SUMMARY
Attending: Jason Manassee, Mason County; Jeanne Kinney, Thurston County; Theresa Parsons, City of Shelton; Phil Wiatrak, Dept. of Ecology; Bob Simmons, WSU Cooperative Extension; Chad Stussy, WDFW; John Konovsky, Squaxin Tribe; John Noble, Citizen; & Susan Gulick, Sound Resolutions.
1. De-Brief of Consultant Selection
q The selection team (Bob Simmons, John Konovsky, and Jason Manassee) reviewed eight written statements of qualifications, and selected four teams to interview for the hydrogeologic characterization.
q After the interviews, Northwest Land and Water was selected as the preferred consultant. The PU now must negotiate a final contract with NW Land & Water.
2. Review Draft Scope of Work for NW Land and Water
q The TC reviewed the draft scope of work and requested some clarifications, including:
q The TC would like 3 hard copies of final deliverables and 25 CD copies of any deliverables that includes graphics or maps. The CDs should include both pdf and tif formats.
q The TC would like to review a precise map of the study area before the work begins.
q The final workplan should include various increments—i.e. the optimal study (which will likely be too expensive) followed by increasingly more affordable options. The PU would like to be able to choose which level of investment in this study is appropriate.
q Jim Mathieu of NW Land and Water will come to the next PU meeting to discuss the final scope of work.
3. Grant Updates
q All of the grant amendments should be finalized by the end of the week (i.e. the base grant amendment for the overall planning effort, the water quality grant amendment and the instream flow grant amendment).
4. Ideas for Future Planning Unit Agendas
q The TC would like to discuss key issues of concerns of the various PU members so that members understand each others’ perspectives as well as receive more information about issues that will be essential for reaching consensus.
q Topics to be explored include water conservation options and a briefing on exempt wells.
q In addition, a PU meeting should be devoted to discussion of the key issues associated with each section of the plan (water quality, water quantity & habitat).
q Additional ideas will be explored at the next PU meeting.
5. Upcoming meetings
q The next PU meeting will be on Wednesday, November 19th—a week earlier than normal due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
q In December, there will be only one meeting: a combined PU/TC meeting on Wednesday, December 17th from 2:30-4:30 at the Civic Center.
